Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

His retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional title, took control to create a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
