Individual confesses to sexual offenses against boys at youth camp
An individual who laced treats with sedative and gave them to children at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben continued to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
